FAQ
Not sure about if you can bring your pets, where the nearest winery or restaurant is in Mudgee? We're here to answer any questions you may have and more!
No, we do not allow pets. We have a lot of precious native wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, blue tongue lizards and bearded dragons that are regularly sighted around the guesthouses. We also have our own domestic stock grazing on Lawson Hill. The risks are too great for our animals and your pet.
No, we do not have Wi-Fi but we have strong coverage from Telstra and Optus networks.
Are you getting Wi-Fi?
We are not sure. We do not receive a lot of requests for it as many guests are here to get away from all that.
We are happy to welcome families but there are some things to be aware of. The Cottage does not have a fence and has 2 cement steps at both external doors. Both guesthouses have some furnishings that are at toddler level or are tempting to climb. It is up to the family members to move or safeguard anything to ensure the safety of their young children and our property. Both wood burners have fire guards.
Strictly no smoking indoors. Smoking is allowed on the veranda and firepit areas only. No smoking outside these areas. We have a natural landscape that would catch fire very quickly if a cigarette butt was carelessly tossed away.
Definitely not. Outdoor fires are not permitted from 1st October to 31st March. This is a Rural Fire Service Regulation, meaning it is illegal to light a fire in this period. Additional bans may be put in place at other times based on the conditions.
What if I cook over the fire or I have a permit?
It is still a no. We have allowed this in the past and been disappointed with the disregard of the rules of the permit or cooking fire each time. It is too risky for our property and our family to allow any fires in the banned or restricted period.
Bunnamagoo Wines are directly across the road, and its entrance is only 200m from our guesthouses. However their driveway is 1.3km long. So yes, it is possible if you are up for a lovely, leisurely walk. Just remember you have to walk home again though.
We are 5km from the 80km zone, 6km from the 50km zone, and 7km from the Clock tower in the CBD of Mudgee. It takes me 8 minutes to drive to the Clock tower.
Lowe Family Wine Co have ploughman’s platters at the cellar door and The Zin House Restaurant is open for lunch. It is close but a 5.7km drive as you have to go back towards town, then turn back to it. Check their website as things change all the time.
It can drop below 0C from May to October and we will have frosts in the mornings. Not every day but it is normal winter weather.
We have modern woodburners in both guesthouses. We also have large reverse cycle heating in the open plan living area of both guesthouses. The 4 bedrooms in the Old Cellar Door each have a reverse cycle system too.
It is very hot and dry in the summer months. It will get above 40C for up to 15 days of summer. It is dry heat, no humidity like coastal areas. We have large reverse cycle cooling in the open plan living areas of both guesthouses. The 4 bedrooms in the Old Cellar Door each have a reverse cycle cooling system. The Cottage has bedroom ceiling fans.
Yes, we encourage our guests to enjoy our property.
There is an incredible 360 degree view from the top of Lawson Hill. The farm tracks are rough and uneven so good foot wear is recommended. There are also 2 open water dams and no fences so any young children must be fully supervised at all times.
Yes, we have a fire trail up and around the hill that makes for some fun bike riding. There are also a few flat roads perfect for young bike riders too.
We do not take any responsibility however, and all biking is at the guest’s own risk.
No. We have a peaceful property with neighbouring guesthouses around us that we do not want to disturb. We are also not insurance covered for that activity.
Sorry, that is a no. We have 2 guesthouses and our own home on Lawson Hill.
So a loud gathering will disturb at least 2 other houses. Also we have such beautiful clear nights out here that noise carries a long way across the valley. All loud noise and music must be turned off at 10.30pm.
